In 2023, non-renewable sources (fossil fuels and nuclear) generated approximately 3,280 billion kWh (or 3,280 TWh) of electricity in the United States, accounting for nearly 79% of the total utility-scale electricity generation.

• Fossil Fuels (Total): 2,505 billion kWh (60.0% share).

• Natural Gas: 1,802 billion kWh (43.1% share).

• Nuclear Energy: 775 billion kWh (18.6% share).
